Executive Director’s Column: Remember how powerful your voice is

I love to go to my son’s baseball games in the summertime.

He’s 11. So, it’s not like he’s playing in the majors.

But watching Little League baseball is a great time to get together with people in the community, watch kids play the national pastime, and just talk with friends and neighbors.

(All while I’m nervously pacing when he’s on the pitcher’s mound.)

Those conversations are a time for me to meet people, learn about what interests them, and share a little bit about what interests me.

Many PSEA members enjoy enhanced leisure time when school lets out for the summer.

It’s a great time to relax and recharge and maybe even get together with some friends and colleagues from school.

When you do, please remember that you can still do something important to help keep our Association strong. You can talk with people – one-on-one – and remind them how important it is to belong to PSEA.

For quite a long time now, I’ve been using this space to encourage members to talk with one another about the benefits of PSEA membership. And I’ve let you know that conversations you have with your fellow PSEA members are absolutely the most powerful way to send that message.

Now, those conversations are more important than ever.

In this issue of Voice, there is great information about the benefits of membership. Have a look and use some of these facts when you have those conversations.

You see, even during summer vacation, your colleagues and friends will listen to what you have to say about PSEA. They know you, they trust you, and they respect you.

And, of course, we are privileged to count you – all 181,000 of you – as PSEA members.

So, whether you’re at a ballgame, a picnic, a party by the pool, or a lunch with friends, remember just how powerful your voice is – and use it.

I’ll be doing the same thing this summer and beyond.

Regardless of the time of year, your voice matters.
