Summer Internship (2 vacancies)

PSEA is recruiting for two Summer Internship positions. This internship will be based primarily in-person in Harrisburg, PA with occasional travel anticipated within the state.  The successful intern applicant will work with staff in Field Operations, Research, Government Relations, and Communications Divisions. This will include working on projects that will provide knowledge and experience in various aspects of union work.  Interested applicants should have an interest in labor and education, and possess strong interpersonal, problem-solving, research, and writing skills. We are particularly interested students who have a career interest in working for PSEA in the future as a field representative working directly with local PSEA unions (Associate UniServ Representative and then, if successful, as a UniServ Representative).

Interns will receive $22 an hour and work 30-40 hours per week. There is a $3,000 housing stipend for candidates outside the area.

Summer Supplemental Help

Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA) is seeking one college student to serve as part-time Summer Supplemental Help in our downtown Harrisburg, PA office. The selected candidate will perform a variety of clerical and project-based tasks. Primary responsibilities include data entry, document scanning, and support on special projects. Some assignments will involve extensive scanning of PDF documents, records, and/or binders. Qualified candidates should be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel and demonstrate strong attention to detail. The ability to manage time effectively and work independently is essential.

This part-time position will work 3-4 days (approximately 25-30 hours) per week. The position will start in late May/early June and will have a salary of $18.00 per hour. PSEA will provide parking for the successful candidate.

Labor Organizing/Communications Specialist

PSEA is a labor organization representing 178,000 members who work in school and skilled nursing settings. We have been advocates for excellence in education since 1852. PSEA has a position for a field-based labor organizing/communications specialist (Region Advocacy Coordinator) located in West Chester, PA.

We are seeking individuals with strong labor credentials, excellent organizing skills and experience, and superior communications skills/expertise. The individual in this position works with other labor relations specialists to motivate and engage school employees, other members, and the community around work-related issues of concern and support for public education. Experience working in a labor environment, a non-profit association, electoral or legislative campaigns or education is preferred. Successful candidates must possess the ability to motivate and engage individuals, and demonstrate excellent writing skills, as well as the ability to work in a team setting, promote membership, develop plans to deal with campaigns and crises, and foster positive relationships with the news media.  Successful candidates will have a solid understanding of digital tools and databases and their application to organizing including but not limited to, peer-to-peer texting, online forms and event registration, virtual phone banking, data tracking and reporting using databases such as the VAN, and various social media platforms.

The position requires a consistent physical presence in our West Chester office.  Evening and occasional weekend work is also required. The minimum educational requirement is a bachelor’s degree. PSEA offers a comprehensive benefit package PTO, pension, employer-paid medical insurance, dental and vision and an excellent starting salary at $132,477.

Interested in a UniServ Representative Position?

PSEA will be holding an information session on Friday, May 8th, during the House of Delegates in Philadelphia, starting at 3:30 p.m.  The session is expected to last approximately one hour.  RSVP preferred one week in advance.

These sessions will provide the opportunity to learn more about the nature and demands of this position and how PSEA’s UniServ Selection Process works. Intended for individuals considering a career as a UniServ Representative.
