In Exeter Township, the Teachers in the Parks program bridges the summer learning gap for many children. The successful program founded by fourth-grade teacher Matthew Hathaway brings learning into communities in a cost-effective way that is enjoyable for teachers and students alike.
Many surrounding districts have seen the impact of Teachers in the Parks and have implemented the program for their students. Hathaway believes the program can work for students across Pennsylvania.
“Our organization believes that all children deserve access to summer learning,” he said. “This has been a 10-year project to try to create a model that we could take anywhere.”
Hathaway has created a network of support to help other districts get started, including training, resources, curriculum, and business partners.
“We are committed to helping others implement Teachers in the Parks so children everywhere can succeed,” he said.
