Director of Special Education Services

Director of Special Education Services

PSEA is seeking an experienced professional leader for the role of Director of Special Education Services in Harrisburg, PA. This hybrid position involves developing, influencing, and shaping Pennsylvania’s education policies, regulations, and practices with a continual focus on improving the public education system for special student populations (special education, gifted learners, English learners, homeless students, migrant students, etc). It also involves developing and recommending Association positions on reform issues related to the education of special student populations. The ideal candidate for this position should possess extensive expertise in general and special education laws, regulations, court decisions, policies, and practices. In addition, the candidate is familiar with laws, regulations, policies, and practices that relate to other special student populations. Applicants should have at least a master’s degree in a relevant field (such as special education). Extensive experience in special education including leadership role(s) is required. Additional experience would be strong public speaking and advocacy skills, and some familiarity with qualitative and quantitative research methods. This position requires frequent in-state travel.

Benefits Specialist

PSEA is currently seeking a Benefits Specialist in our downtown Harrisburg office. This confidential position works independently, providing overall benefits administration (pension, 401k, HRA, insurance, FMLA, disability, etc.), HRIS support, processing new hire, transfer, promotion and termination changes, and provides excellent customer service to prospective, current and former employees.

A minimum of an associate’s degree in Human Resource Management or equivalent experience is required. A minimum of 5 years’ human resources experience is required, preferably in the subject of benefits administration. CEBS certification preferred. Previous experience with a defined benefit pension plan and HRIS system maintenance strongly preferred. Excellent oral/written communication, time management, and organizational skills are required.

PSEA will be holding a virtual UniServ Information Session on Thursday, September 19, 2024 at 5:00 pm. The session is expected to last approximately one hour. 

This session will provide the opportunity to learn more about the nature and demands of this position and how PSEA’s UniServ Selection Process works. Intended for individuals considering a career as a UniServ Representative.
