Keystone Oaks teacher named recipient of prestigious Horace Mann AwardHigh school computer science teacher Kevin Gallagher, a member of Keystone Oaks EA, is one of five educators nationwide to have received the 2023 Horace Mann Award for Teaching Excellence. The award, presented by the NEA Foundation and sponsored by the Horace Mann Educators Foundation, is one of public education's highest honors. Gallagher created something called “night of code,” where parents and students of all grade levels get together to learn about computer science, and code together. Since he started the program in 2018, he’s had more than 200 parents and students involved in “night of code.” He’s also worked tirelessly to increase AP course offerings in his district, increase diversity among teaching staff, and as a local leader, negotiated four contracts over 10 years that increased his members’ salaries significantly. “I am honored and proud to represent educators from Keystone Oaks and Pennsylvania in being a Horace Mann Award recipient,” Gallagher said. “I would like to thank the NEA Foundation and PSEA for their support through this process.” We’re proud to count teachers like Kevin Gallagher among our Association’s membership. He’s the kind of educator we all aspire to be. Read more about the NEA Foundation Horace Mann Award for Teaching Excellence at the link below. |
