Property tax bill will cost PA taxpayers more

Voice: March 2017

One issue that seems to resurface every legislative session is school property tax relief. A legislative proposal making the rounds in Harrisburg would raise state personal income and sales taxes and expand the sales tax base to reduce school property taxes.

The impact of this plan varies depending on where you live. While school property taxes would be reduced, not every Pennsylvanian's taxes will be cut. Many will pay more.

Here's what you need to know.

School property taxes WILL NOT be eliminated

Every Pennsylvania taxpayer will pay more in state income and sales taxes under the plan, but only a very small number will see their school property taxes fully eliminated. In 488 of the state's 500 school districts, taxpayers will continue to pay some school property taxes.
