National Board Certification (NBC) is a voluntary, advanced teaching credential that goes beyond state licensure. NBC has national standards for what accomplished teachers should know and be able to do. The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) certifies teachers who successfully complete its rigorous certification process. NEA

Educators who would like to learn more about NBC or begin preparing to apply may complete PSEA’s micro-credential on the Five Core Propositions. Visit PSEA’s Micro-credentials page to learn more, including how to earn Act 48 hours or graduate credit upon completion.
Beginning in 2025, PSEA is the approved provider of Act 48 hours for educators with a Pennsylvania instructional or specialist certificate who submit initial NBC or Maintenance of Certification (MOC) components.
