HARRISBURG (Oct. 25, 2018) – Dolores McCracken, president of the Pennsylvania State Education Association, commented today on Gov. Tom Wolf’s signing of Senate Bill 1095. The legislation, sponsored by state Sen. Tom McGarrigle, provides Pennsylvania students with multiple options in addition to the Keystone Exams to fulfill high school graduation requirements.
“Today is a victory for all Pennsylvania students. This new law recognizes that a student’s academic record is much more than a single standardized test. Now, students will be able to draw on multiple academic achievements to demonstrate that they are college and career ready.
“This law never would have made it across the finish line were it not for the leadership of Sen. McGarrigle, who understands that a high school diploma is too important to leave up to a set of high-stakes tests. We commend him for his hard work on this legislation.”
McCracken is a paraprofessional in the Council Rock School District. An affiliate of the National Education Association, PSEA represents approximately 181,000 future, active, and retired teachers and school employees, and health care workers in Pennsylvania.
