HARRISBURG (July 21, 2017) - Following Gov. Tom Wolf’s announcement that he has tapped Pennsylvania State Education Association President Jerry Oleksiak to serve as Pennsylvania’s secretary of labor and industry, PSEA Vice President Dolores McCracken issued the following statement.
“Jerry Oleksiak has been an outstanding PSEA president, and he will be an excellent secretary of labor and industry. I have known Jerry for nearly 20 years, and I can tell you that he is one of the most fair-minded, committed, and dedicated leaders I’ve ever met.
“Everything Jerry has done in his life has been centered around helping kids, protecting working people, and fighting to make sure that everyone – regardless of where they live, what they do, or what they look like – has a fair shake in life. That’s why Jerry is so well-suited to serve as secretary of labor and industry.
“PSEA members will miss Jerry’s extraordinary leadership. But Pennsylvanians will gain a tireless advocate in the governor’s cabinet, and they will come to learn what we at PSEA already know – that Jerry Oleksiak will always be in their corner.
“Jerry and Gov. Wolf will make an incredible team. I speak for all PSEA members in saying that I wish Jerry the best of luck meeting this exciting new challenge.”
Oleksiak will leave office as PSEA president on Sept. 2 and assume his new duties as secretary of labor and industry.
Pursuant to PSEA’s constitution and bylaws, McCracken will become PSEA president on Sept. 2. PSEA’s Board of Directors will appoint a vice president to fill McCracken’s vacancy.
McCracken is a paraprofessional in the Council Rock School District. She has served as PSEA vice president since September 2015 and previously served as PSEA treasurer and as a member of the PSEA Board of Directors. An affiliate of the National Education Association, PSEA represents approximately 180,000 future, active and retired teachers and school employees, and health care workers in Pennsylvania.
