Educators celebrate the contributions of Latinos during Hispanic heritage this month

To the Editor:

Pennsylvania State Education Association members join the nation to celebrate the contributions of Americans of Latinx and Hispanic heritage from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15.

Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates the independence of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua (Sept. 15, 1821), Mexico (Sept. 16, 1810), and Chile (Sept. 18, 1810).

Educators and support professionals in Pennsylvania are proud to honor the historical and cultural impacts of these communities and how they have enriched U.S. history. One of the best ways to do that is to remind people about Latinx and Hispanic cultures’ influence on society today.

Wherever you are, I invite you to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Our public schools are as diverse as our communities, and we are privileged to celebrate, nurture, and educate every student who learns in them.

We are proud to commemorate the diversity Latinx and Hispanic people bring to Pennsylvania and the nation, not just this month, but all year round.
