HARRISBURG (June 17, 2019) – The Pennsylvania State Education Association’s Board of Directors elected Aaron Chapin, a fifth-grade teacher from the Stroudsburg Area School District, as the Association’s vice president during the board’s meeting in Harrisburg this weekend.
Chapin has taught at Stroudsburg Area Middle School for 23 years and has served as PSEA’s Northeastern Region president since 2017. He has been a member of the PSEA Board of Directors since 2015 and has also served on the National Education Association’s Committee for Constitution, Bylaws, and Rules.
“I am humbled and thrilled to have been selected by PSEA’s Board of Directors to be the next vice president of PSEA,” Chapin said. “It’s been a heartbreaking and challenging year, but I will use this opportunity to help make our Association even stronger.”
Chapin assumes office immediately.
“Aaron Chapin loves PSEA, and he’s made a tremendous difference as a local and region leader and as a member of the Board of Directors,” said PSEA President Rich Askey. “Aaron will be an excellent addition to our officer team.”
The PSEA statewide officers include Askey, Chapin, and Treasurer Jeff Ney. Korri Brown, who was elected vice president during the Association’s biannual House of Delegates in May, passed away suddenly on May 18. Chapin fills the vacancy created as a result of Brown’s passing.
Pursuant to PSEA’s constitution and bylaws, the PSEA Board of Directors holds elections to fill vacancies in the office of vice president. Chapin’s term runs until May 2020. A special election for vice president will be held during the May 2020 PSEA House of Delegates.
PSEA represents approximately 181,000 future, active, and retired teachers and school employees, and health care workers in Pennsylvania.
