Federal education funding is under threat

Every day PSEA members strive to make a difference in the lives of their students and to meet their needs, whatever they may be. To accomplish that, it’s clear our public education system needs more funding, not less.

Unfortunately, politicians in Washington are executing a plan to dismantle public education and phase out all federal education funding over the next decade.

Many of these policies come directly from Project 2025, a 920-page collection of bad policies written by billionaires to reduce funding to our schools, lower the compensation of educators and support professionals, and weaken protections for students with disabilities.

Project 2025's proposal to cut all $2.7 billion in PA's public school federal funding will make salary increases much more challenging. For perspective, the proposed federal cuts equal 16.5 percent of all teacher salaries.

These cuts would have a profound impact on our pensions, salaries, and health care and hurt our ability to negotiate strong contracts. Our students would suffer across the board, as Project 2025 takes aim at programs and resources they need. This plan would rip away Title I and special education funding, undermine needed services for students with disabilities, and eliminate Head Start programming.

We can’t let that happen.

2026 PA Teacher of the Year Madeline Loring: “Be unapologetically you”

In December, Madeline Loring, a fourth grade teacher at Jefferson-Morgan Elementary School in Greene County’s Jefferson-Morgan School District, was named the 2026 Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year.

As with all PSEA members who earn this distinction, we asked Madeline to write an article for Voice. Her heartfelt article made a big impression on those who read it, and we want to makre sure we share it with as many PSEA members as possible.

So, in case you haven't gotten your copy of the March Voice yet, click the link below to read her article about the importance of teaching with joy and from a fully authentic place.
