PSEA celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

 
Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 marks Hispanic Heritage Month. PSEA celebrates the diverse experiences, voices, and vibrant cultures Hispanic communities bring to Pennsylvania’s public schools and students this month, and all year round.

Apply for a PSEA scholarship or NEA Aspiring Educators grant

PSEA's Lucy A. Valero Memorial Scholarship Fund offers scholarships to Student PSEA members in good standing. Scholarship recipients are chosen by the trustees of the Lucy A. Valero Memorial Scholarship Fund composed of PSEA officers, staff, and the Student PSEA president, and will be awarded at the 2024 Student PSEA Conference and Convention. Applications must be postmarked by Jan. 31.

NEA's Aspiring Educators CREATE Grants offer grants up to $2,000 to help support a Student PSEA chapter's program and/or activity that focuses on educator quality, community engagement, political action, or social justice. Applications must be submitted by Oct. 15.

 


A.P.E.X. spotlight: University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg

 
The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg's Student PSEA chapter took first place in last year's A.P.E.X. competition for their incredible work in community service, membership and professional development, political action, and chapter organization. Their activities included:

• Traveling to Washington, D.C. and Gettysburg
• Hosting a senior send-off event
• Attending the December 2022 House of Delegates in Pittsburgh
 
A.P.E.X recognition and awards for the 2023-24 school year will be presented at the 2024 Student PSEA Conference and Convention. Guidelines for A.P.E.X can be found here.

A new, improved PEARL and Available professional development resources and opportunities

 
The PSEA Center for Professional Learning recently relaunched the PEARL online learning system with many updates and improvements. Featured updates to PEARL are described on our brand new PEARL Updates Page where you can learn about the latest improvements including:
 
Log in using your PSEA.org credentials: PSEA members have instant access to PEARL with just their PSEA.org username and password.
• Personalized Dashboard: Access all your courses, certificates, badges, and other information in a single space.
• Updated, Mobile-Friendly Interface: This modernized look and feel enhances your experience on any device.
• Simplified Navigation: The navigation bar is available from every page and connects you to all you need.
• Enhanced Support: Easily get help with improved FAQs, clarifying help videos, and a direct connection to tech support using the integrated form.
 
We also improved our member support with an updated FAQ Page and a showcase of videos showing you all the steps you need to make the most of PEARL.

EDGE brings preā€professionals, experienced teachers, and other education professionals together to collaborate and discuss the issues facing public education and the profession. Interested in inviting an EDGE speaker to your Student PSEA chapter event? Review the list of available topics and email students@psea.org with a presentation topic, event details, and contact information.

New! NSTOY-PA TEACH Program

NSTOY-PA is a statewide organization of teachers who have been named a Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year finalist and are available for speaking engagements. Interested in inviting a finalist to attend and/or speak at your Student PSEA chapter event? Click here to submit a speaker request.

West Chester University's Student PSEA chapter is hosting an NSTOY-PA TEACH event on Nov. 5. Look for more details on their Instagram account @spseaofwcupa.

Slippery Rock University's Student PSEA chapter is hosting their annual Rock Solid Educator's Conference on Nov. 18. Click here for more details.
