Political Institute 2026 Session Descriptions

Election Protection

This session explores Pennsylvania’s election protection infrastructure and examines current and anticipated threats to the administration of elections. Participants will learn about the systems safeguarding the vote and discover practical ways to get involved in securing elections and strengthening democracy.

All Eyes on Yass

As Pennsylvania’s richest man, and the leading donor of school voucher efforts in the nation, Jeffrey Yass is unmatched in the threat he faces to public schools. Understand the web of influence and elected leaders Yass has bought and paid for in the Commonwealth.

Building Power through Digital Media

You don’t need a media budget to make an impact online. With an iPhone, some creativity, and a few simple tools, you’ll be ready to get started after this training. We’ll share best practices, tips and tricks, and examples of organic digital efforts that have made a real difference.

Education Funding 101

How is school funding distributed to schools? What’s the difference between the Fair Funding Formula and the Ready to Learn Block Grant? How did the General Assembly respond to the Commonwealth Court’s ruling on funding adequacy and equity? And how do special education funding, property tax relief, and federal dollars fit into the picture? Join us for clear answers to these questions and more.

School Board Elections Deep Dive

As federal education policy and the national political landscape remain as tenuous as ever – local elections, particularly school board elections, are an avenue to ensure public school employees are protected.  Hear the latest from recent winning campaigns and PSEA staff about the tactics used to win.

Shifting Electoral Landscapes

How can we build a pro–public education majority in Congress, and where does Pennsylvania fit into the national political landscape? Keystone Analysis researchers will guide participants through an interactive session exploring potential electoral scenarios, shifting voter constituencies, and the messages and issues that resonate.

PACE Fundraising Best Practices and Success Stories

Less than a quarter of PSEA members donate to PACE — and our research shows the top reason is simple: they’ve never been asked. In this session, local PACE chairs and PSEA staff will share straightforward, effective best practices to help you engage members and boost PACE fundraising in your district.

Republican Caucus

Even as public education faces partisan divides, supporting our schools and students is not a one-party issue. Hear from special guests about how we can all work together to support our students, schools, and public-school employees.

Neighborhood Captains

Traditional door-to-door canvassing and phone banking have become increasingly challenging as voters screen calls and avoid answering video doorbells. That’s where the neighborhood captains program comes in. Over the last 2 election cycles, labor and organizational partners have shifted to hyper-local outreach using volunteers who engage their own neighborhoods over the course of the year. Early results show significantly higher contact rates and measurable impact. Hear directly from practitioners about how these programs are working.
