Payroll deduction bill attacks PSEA members

Voice: March 2017

The state Senate in February approved payroll deduction legislation designed to silence the voices of educators, nurses, and first responders.

The bill would prohibit public school employees from voluntarily having union dues deducted from their paychecks if those dues support advocacy work on behalf of their schools, students, and communities. In other words, politicians in Harrisburg are trying to prevent PSEA members from using their deducted dues dollars to advocate for investments in our schools or reforms to high-stakes testing.
