Week of 11-7-2022

Thank you, PSEA!

For the past few months, we’ve been talking a lot about the 2022 elections.

And for good reason.

This year more than most, we needed to elect pro-public education and pro-labor candidates to state and federal offices up and down the ballot.

PSEA, that is EXACTLY what you did.

You used your votes and your voices to tell your colleagues, your families, your friends, and your neighbors how important it is to elect pro-public education candidates, regardless of whether they are Democrats or Republicans.

And you absolutely helped to win these elections for PSEA-recommended candidates.

  • Josh Shapiro for governor. In the race for governor, Josh Shapiro won a decisive victory. Winning this race was absolutely crucial, because Shapiro is committed to increasing school funding, addressing the school staff shortage, reducing standardized testing, fighting for collective bargaining rights, and protecting our pensions. Now will know we will have a great partner in the governor’s office for the next four years.
  • John Fetterman for U.S. Senate. In the race for U.S. Senate, John Fetterman was the clear pro-public education and pro-labor candidate. He will be a champion for our issues in Washington, D.C.
  • U.S. House of Representatives. In our races for the U.S. House, we still maintained 10 pro-public education U.S. representatives, even though Pennsylvania lost a U.S. House seat in redistricting due to population declines.
  • Pennsylvania House of Representatives. The question for the pundits right now is whether Democrats or Republicans will end up taking the majority in the state House. For us, though, the outcome is already clear. Whether its Democrats or Republicans who take the majority in the state House, we know that we will have a pro-public education and pro-labor majority. That’s because candidates that PSEA recommended have won all over the state.

Here’s the bottom line.

Because of PSEA members’ votes and voices, we will have more friends in Harrisburg and Washington who will fight for our students, our schools, our professions, our collective bargaining rights, and our pensions.

Amazing work, PSEA.

Thank you for everything you did to elect pro-public education candidates.
