Jerry Oleksiak, PSEA Vice President

Jerry Oleksiak

W. Gerard “Jerry” Oleksiak began his term as PSEA President on September 1, 2015. Prior to being elected PSEA President, Jerry served as PSEA Vice President, PSEA Treasurer, a member of the PSEA Board of Directors, and President of Mideastern Region of PSEA, which includes Bucks and Montgomery Counties. He is especially proud of the 32 years he spent in the classroom, most of that time as a special education teacher in the Upper Merion Area School District in King of Prussia.

Jerry's Association work is long and extensive, at the local, regional, state, and national levels. In addition to serving as Region President, Jerry served as Region Secretary, Vice President, and President-Elect at the region level. He was Chair of the Coordinated Bargaining Committee and Chair of the Region's Public Education Celebrations. He also served on the Region PACE Team, the Council for the Advancement of Public Schools (CAPS) work group, and on the Steering Committee for TOPS, Together Organized for Public Schools.

At the local level, Jerry held various positions for the Upper Merion Area Education Association, including Building Representative, Vice President, and President, and served on several negotiations teams. At the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit Education Association, Jerry served as Vice President and was involved in the organizing drive that made MCIUEA the recognized bargaining agent. At the Bucks County Intermediate Unit Education Association, Jerry served as Crisis Committee Co-Chair and as a Building Representative.

As a PSEA officer since 2007, Jerry has worked to build strong coalitions with educational advocacy groups throughout Pennsylvania, and strong partnerships with public and private sector unions throughout the state. In partnership with national leaders at NEA and with other NEA affiliates across the country, his focus has always been to advance the cause of public education and labor solidarity.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Jerry graduated from Saint Joseph's College, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in International Relations and a teaching certificate in social studies in 1974. Several years later, Jerry earned a Master's degree in Education from Saint Joseph's, and worked to earn his special education certification through LaSalle University. While working with the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit, he also earned certification as an intermediate unit program specialist.

Jerry has been married for more than 40 years to his wife Dina, a family nurse practitioner who is the Director of Student Health at LaSalle University in Philadelphia. Dina and Jerry live in Glenside, Abington Township, in Montgomery County. They have three daughters: Sarah Barnes, Laura Brown, and Kathryn, all of whom attended Abington public schools and have earned their college degrees. Jerry and Dina are the proud grandparents of Mia and Gavin.
