PSEA-Retired supports the Jack Kinnaman Memorial Scholarship
PSEA-Retired is collecting donations for the NEA-Retired Jack Kinnaman Memorial Scholarship. You can make a difference in the life of a future educator with your donation!
The NEA-Retired Jack Kinnaman Memorial Scholarship was created in memory of longtime NEA member and education advocate, Jack Kinnaman, fondly remembered as NEA’s “Cat in the Hat.”
Kinnaman cared about students, especially those who facing financial constraints and needing a helping hand. Kinnaman's family created the scholarships to continue to help students in financial need.
In 2009, the scholarship committee selected Student PSEA member Allyson Perry, a junior at St. Vincent College in Southwestern Region, as one of only two scholarship recipients nationwide. Allyson is president of her local chapter and a region vice-president.
When PSEA talked with Allyson about what she learned from her participation in the NEA scholarship program, she responded, “The NEA scholarship helped me to learn a lot about myself. It made me think not only what I’ve done, but about what else I can do for my local chapter and for Student PSEA.”
To encourage contributions, PSEA-Retired will be giving away a beautiful, one-of-a-kind quilt created by Mary Kieras (Montgomery County PSEA-Retired) in its “You Can Make A Difference” giveaway. The quilt is crafted from NEA Outreach to Teach t-shirts collected over the past nine years. The giveaway is particularly relevant since Outreach to Teach is an annual event sponsored by NEA’s Retired and Student programs.
The quilt will be on display and donations will be collected at PSEA statewide events and at PSEA-Retired meetings throughout spring 2010. You may also donate by printing a donation card and mailing it to PSEA at the address on the card.
The winner will be selected from all entries received by close of business on May 31, 2010 and need not be present to win. The drawing will be held on Friday, June 11, 2010, at PSEA Headquarters, 400 North Third Street, Harrisburg, PA.
Note: No donation required to enter the drawing.
