PSEA creates special membership opportunity for furloughed members
No one needs to be reminded of the tough times we’re facing. As school districts announce furloughs and program cuts, PSEA members who receive furlough notices, and their families, know what these tough times mean.
We continue to face challenging times, but PSEA is here to help. The PSEA Board of Directors recently created a special opportunity for members who receive furlough notices for the 2011-2012 school year. Furloughed members can opt-in to a special reserve membership and receive the benefits of membership without paying PSEA dues.
A special reserve member pays only NEA dues. NEA dues are projected to be $99 for an EA member and $63.50 for an ESP member. NEA is unable to waive dues payments.
PSEA President Mike Crossey noted the importance of the special reserve membership for furloughed members. “PSEA is proud to serve its members. For members who may be furloughed, the benefits of membership can be essential. That is why we created this membership opportunity. If you qualify, please stay with PSEA and sign up as a special reserve member. Things will get better, but let your union offer a helping hand in these tough times.”
PSEA membership offers a wide range of benefits from legal services and representation to discounts on products and services, and furloughed members need these benefits more than ever.
Three ways to sign up for special reserve membership:
- Ask the membership chair in your local to forward your name to PSEA.
- Visit www.psea.org/furloughs and tell us that you want to take advantage of special reserve membership.
- Call PSEA at 1-800-944-7732, ext. 31 and tell us that you want to sign up for special reserve membership.
