News conference calls on Legislature to invest in Pennsylvania

PBPC conference1The class of 2022 enters kindergarten this fall. These children get only one chance to go to kindergarten; there are no do-over's.

It’s critical that Pennsylvania provide children a quality education every year.

PSEA joined organizations from across the state to ask legislators to preserve Pennsylvania's commitment to education and other vital services for millions of Pennsylvanians, using a balanced approach in passing the state budget for next year. The group also submitted a letter to the General Assembly urging lawmakers to continue their commitment to Pennsylvania's children and families, and to invest in Pennsylvania's future.

A balanced approach:

  • Recognizes that a state problem requires a statewide solution
  • Prevents the state from shifting costs to property taxes
  • Makes cuts only where necessary
  • Uses Rainy Day Fund, other reserves
  • Considers a variety of new revenue options

Organizations participating in the news conference included PSEA, the Pennsylvania Budget and Policy Center, the Pennsylvania School Boards Association, Association of Nonprofit Senior Services, Pennsylvania Association of Rural and Small Schools, Public Citizens for Children and Youth, Pennsylvania Partnerships for Children, Education Voters of Pennsylvania, Housing Alliance of Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania School Funding Campaign.
