Statewide bus tour stands up for schools
Senator Bob Casey, Governor Ed Rendell and PA Education Secretary Gerald Zehorchak spent a week traveling across the Commonwealth by bus to talk about the need for more school funding in this year's budget. With 14 stops in 14 counties, news conferences at public schools featured state and local leaders, PSEA members, school administrators, parents and local communities. Speakers discussed the local impact of this year's education budget and the importance of maintaining Pennsylvania's investment in public schools.
At Shawnee Middle School in the Easton Area School District, PSEA member and Easton Area EA President Kevin Deely was among the speakers. "Last year the Pennsylvania legislature passed a school funding formula to begin correcting this funding gap. They believed in, and committed to, a better education for our students. Now the Senate Republican budget threatens to cut funding to Pennsylvania schools back to the 2006 levels. Our children and schools can’t afford that."
In East Pennsboro School District, Senator Bob Casey told crowds that funding PA schools is necessary, so children can learn more now and earn more later.
