Pennsylvania celebrates Arts in Education Day

April 1, 2009 is Arts in Education Day in Pennsylvania. A Pennsylvania House of Representatives resolution establishing April 1 as Arts in Education Day said that arts education, whether in visual arts, music, dance, theater or literature, strengthens the development of creativity, discipline and cognitive and social skills that are crucial in the preparation of all Pennsylvania's students for future growth.

Arts educators provide our youth with the cultural education and intricate fundamentals to make them well-rounded individuals.

Arts education programs in our schools enable young men and women to discover, cultivate and share unique talents as gifts to society.

The resolution was passed to emphasize the importance of the arts in Pennsylvania to “to transcend cultural barriers, evoke universal emotions and reveal to us the ever-changing society in which we live.” PSEA joins the House of Representatives in commemorating Arts in Education Day, recognizing arts educators and the importance of the arts in Pennsylvania schools.

April 1, 2009 is also an important day for arts and culture across the country, as thousands of artists and supporters join Americans for the Arts for Arts Advocacy Day in Washington D.C. National Arts Advocacy Day is a united effort to tell legislators how important culture is to communities, how much arts education means to American children, and how much the arts improve people's daily lives.
