Key Issue: School Funding
When the state budget became law on June 30, 2013, it included $130 million more than Gov. Corbett proposed for the public schools.
That victory came after PSEA members sent legislators nearly 20,000 emails, made thousands of phone calls, and mailed thousands of letters.
But our work isn’t over. In fact, it’s just beginning.
Gov. Corbett played politics with the school funding law, underfunding many urban school districts and giving very little to the struggling schools that need state funding the most.
After nearly $1 billion in school funding cuts, there is a school funding crisis in Pennsylvania. Nearly 20,000 educators have lost their jobs since 2011, and school districts across the state have been forced to cut programs that our students need.
